Forsyth County/Winston-Salem | Local State Parks


In Alamance County:

  • Cedar Rock Park and Historical Farm - Several walking trails throughout the park. Located off of NC49, about 6 miles south of Interstate 85/40 Exit 145.

In Burlington:


In Greensboro: 

  • Arboretum is located 2 miles from downtown Greensboro west of the intersection of W. Wendover Avenue and W. Market Street.  There are walking and bicycling trails through this park full of beautiful flowers, shrubs and tree species.

  • Barber Park is located at 1500 Danís Road, off East Florida Street with a one-mile, multiple-use trail around the 109-acre park

  • The Greensboro section of the Bicentennial Greenway runs 1.9 miles from Country Park, through Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and connects with the two-mile Lake Brandt Greenway.

  • Bryan Park at Guilford County is located southeast of the intersection of NC Highway 150 and Doggett Road.

  • Bur Mil Park  located in Greensboro at 5834 Bur-Mil Club Road, is owned by Guilford County and managed by the City of Greensboro.  It has hiking and biking trails. 

  • Country Park located at 3905 Nathanael Greene Drive offers walking offers a hiking trail for the visually impaired.

  • Guilford Courthouse National Military Park - National Park with trails for hiking, walking or biking.

  • Hagan Stone Park is located at 5920 Hagan-Stone Park
    Pleasant Garden, NC 27313. 
    Nature, hiking and biking trails.

  • Lake Brandt, Lake Higgins and Lake Townsend offers 32 miles of watershed trail that circle the lakes. 

  • Northeast Park - Guilford County's newest park, there are shared use trails and paths on 395 acres of land.  The park is accessed just off of Huffine Mill Road northeast of Greensboro.

  • Oka T. Hester Park has a challenging 1.3-mile fitness course 

  • Price Park is located at 1420 Price Park Drive, off Hobbs Road between New Garden Road and Jefferson Road.  Walking Trail (1 mile).

In High Point

  • High Point Greenway - extends 1.5 miles from Armstrong Park downtown to High Point University, then along Boulding Branch Creek to the historic Little Red Schoolhouse.

  • The Piedmont Environmental Center is a nature preserve with 11 miles of trails and a walk-on Mapscape of North Carolina. 1220 Penny Road. 336-883-8531.

  • Bicentennial Greenway is a paved 7-mile section of greenway that runs from High Pointís City Lake Park to Piedmont Center. Access points are located at the Piedmont Environmental Center in High Point, Gibson Park on Wendover West, Jamestown Golf Course, and the Piedmont Centre.

  • Gibson Park - Access to the Bicentennial Greenway take with plenty of parking.  Five miles of nature trails or greenway access.

In Forsyth County/Winston-Salem:

  • Bethabara Greenway  2.7 miles Combines paved and natural sections along Mill Creek and through Historic Bethabara Park, from Reynolda Commons Shopping Center to Crown Oaks Apts.  Bikes allowed.

  • Bowen Branch Greenway has 3 miles Paved along Brushy Creek from Bowen Boulevard to Highway 311. Bikes and skates allowed.

  • Silas Creek Greenway  has .8 mile paved and un-paved along Silas Creek from Yorkshire to Robinhood roads. Bikes and skates allowed.

  • Strollway  1.15 miles paved and gravel connector between downtown and Old Salem, from 4th Street to Salem Ave.

  • Salem Lake Trail  6.5 miles unpaved around Salem Lake. Ties into the Salem Cree trail. Bikes, runners, walkers and horses allowed.

  • Salem Creek Trail  4.5 miles paved along Salem Creek from Peters Creek Parkway to Salem Lake. Bikes and skates allowed.

  • Newell Massey Trail   1.2 miles paved that connects Old Greensboro road and waterworks road near the entrance ot Winston Lake. Bikes and skates allowed.

Fitness Trails in Winston Salem
The Recreation and Parks Department operate 23 fitness trails in parks through the city. Eight of the trails are equipped with exercise stations.

  • Bolton Wheelchair Course 1590 Bolton Street, stations, 1,320 ft (about .25 mi.) wide paved trail for participants in wheelchairs. Skateboard and skates not allowed.

  • Bethabara Park 4451 Old Town Drive, 20 stations, 5,200 ft (.985 mi.)

  • Forest Park 1184 Tower Street, 20 stations, 4,774 ft (.904 mi.)

  • Shaffner Park 4810 Silas Creek Parkway, 20 stations 6,003 ft (1.136 mi.)

  • Cricket Walking Trail 4403 Country Club Road, 14 stations, 660 ft (.125 mi.)

  • Bowen Blvd. 2350 Bowen Boulevard, 10 stations, 5,545 ft (1.051 mi.)

  • Larry D. Little 2001 Pittsburgh Avenue, 10 stations, 3,000 ft (.57 mi.)

  • Washington Park 1490 Broad Street, 20 stations, 5,883 ft (1.30 mi.)

State Parks in the region:

  • Haw River State Park located in Browns Summit, NC a number of walking and hiking trails.  Visitors have an opportunity to see the headwaters of the Haw River.

  • Hanging Rock State Park located in Danbury, NC has more than 18 miles of wooded passageways form a network of 12 trails at Hanging Rock State Park. Also has a wheel chair accessible trail.

  • Morrow Mountain State Park located on the border of Stanley and Montgomery County has over 15 miles of hiking trails.

  • Pilot Mountain State Park located in Pinnacle, NC near Mount Airy has over 6 miles of marked trails from "easy" to "strenuous."
